Music Cover Design
A set of illustrations for Indie music.
Who does not like music? I have always been fascinated by how music covers are produced and how they communicate the idea and emotion of the song. Therefore, I decided to do a set of illustrations for three songs to show my love of music. I am specifically looking at independent music in different genres such as Disco Funk, New wave and Post-punk revival. I have chosen three songs: "The less I Know the Better" by Tame Impala, "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order and "Midnight Show" by The Killers.

"The Less I know the Better" By Tame Impala
The song describes the narrator saw a woman he loves is gathering with someone else. He tried to move on, but he falls back into thoughts about his old love quickly.
I came up with the idea that one of the eyes was covered with one hand, the other eye was peeking to something which means the narrator is curious and still care what is happening to the relationship. The ball on his head represents the thought of his love. Even though the truth is harsh, he still wants to know it because of love.
"Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order
Another 80s classical band - New Order is one of my favourites.
The song is basically about a person already in a relationship who fall in love with another person who they have already know and is not sure to handle it — the perspective being from the person who now has to choose between which person to be with.
The idea of the cover is to portray the situation of a complicated relationship. I was inspired by the surrealism movement in the early 1920s.
I melt down the shape of two glass to match the silhouette on the wall and appear to be the shape of a man and woman. The right part of the shadow represent they are a married couple, but on the left side, the man is looking down to the water. The water is a shape of another woman that the man desire to falls in love with so he is confused in how to handle the whole situation.
"Midnight Show" By The Killers
One of the main reasons I choose “Midnight Show” is the Killers tell a murder trilogy through their songs which begins with an old b-side called “Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf” where the narrator begs a girl called Jenny to give him another chance, but she eventually left him for another man. “Midnight Show” is a track where the narrator killed Jenny because of Jealousy and rage. At last part of the trilogy, “Jenny was a friend of mind” was a confession of the narrator.
